First Haircut

It took more than a year, but Camille finally had enough hair for her first haircut! It's not that it was that long, it just needed to be shaped up. We decided to take her to one of the chains that specializes in cutting kid's hair, and I'm glad we did. There were tiny chairs, little capes and small ribbons:) Perfect for a little one. The shop was ultra kid friendly:) We were actually a little nervous, not knowing how Camille would react but she was great! Another first in the history books!

Hip Hop!

This is Camille's second Easter, but since she was just a couple of months old last year, we never took her to see the Easter Bunny. With everything that has happened in the last few weeks, we needed a distraction and a trip to see Peter Rabbit was the answer. We went to the mall, I put her on his lap, she looked at him, and you could see her thinking, what are you? I guess she figured it was okay since I put her on his lap. She looked at the camera and smiled.

Then Saturday, we took her to "Breakfast with the Easter Bunny." Camille laughed nearly the entire time. She loved seeing the other kids! Mickey and Minnie came to each table to visit. Camille didn't know what to make of them, but she wasn't scared. She eventually smiled for a picture. We had a great time and made another couple of happy memories along the way.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who emailed me about the loss of my Arthur. I truly appreciate all of your kindess. We're fortunate to have so many wonderful newschannel 5 viewers and newsnet 5 readers:)

As many of you know, it is so very hard to say good-bye to a four legged family member. After more than a week, I still have a hard time saying his name without crying. I can't bear to put away his things at home but looking at his dish and leash reminds me how empty the house feels.

Arthur has a new space in our home now. We had him cremated at the Western Farm Pet Crematory and Cemetery in Grafton last week. My girlfriend told me about them and they were so wonderful! Jason and Debbie were so kind to us and helped us get through a very difficult experience. We got a chance to say good-bye one more time in the little chapel , and we waited there while Arthur was cremated. We talked to another animal lover who lost her dog, we shared stories and for a moment I felt better.

Although, Camille is only 13 months old I think she knows something is different. She loved her four legged big brother:) She points to his pictures all the time and smiles. I've been asked a lot lately if we will get another dog, probably. I don't want Camille to grow up without one. But, I've also realized that although I will love our next puppy no animal can take Artie's place in my heart.

Broken Hearts

We brought Camille home on one of the coldest days of 2007. She was home just minutes before her 4 legged big brother greeted her with a bark. She never even flinched, I guess she was used to hearing him bark all those months in my belly. My Arthur was 16 years old at the time. People warned me that he might not accept my "other child". I never had any doubts. Arthur

was with me through many firsts. My first job, first apartment, move to new cities, my wedding and now a baby. He welcomed her with open paws. But, just days after Camille came home, Arthur got very ill. I thought we were going to loose him. It turned out we had tainted dog food and he had suffered severe kidney damage. The vet said he only had weeks, maybe months to live. Arthur had already beaten the odds by beating cancer a few years earlier. So again, I prayed and begged him to fight, to make it through her first year. He did, almost to the day. He was there to celebrate all of her firsts, including her first birthday. Just days after her birthday party, he started getting very sick. This time, I knew it was different. He wasn't going to get better. He stopped eating and there wasn't anything the vets could do. Arthur was in pain and was dieing in my arms. We took him to the vet and took his pain away. Camille is obviously too young to understand, but she knows something is different. Her 4 legged friend that she crawled with and played with is gone. She can tell Mummy and Daddy are sad, she just doesn't understand how heartbroken I truly am.

Things To Do

We are in the middle of winter and I think many moms and kids must have cabin fever. We were at the mall last week and all we saw lots of moms pushing strollers:) It was nice to see that I wasn't the only one who wanted to be out of the house!

So, now I'm looking for ideas of things to do with Camille. She isn't walking yet so we are a little limited as to what we can do. I would love to hear from you about places to go and things to do with little ones in these winter months. On my days off I like to take her places so if you have an idea please drop me an email!

I can't believe how fast this year has gone! Now Camille's 1st birthday and 1st birthday party are history too.

After much debate we decide to have her party at our house. We had her big party last weekend. (On her real birthday, we went shopping and to lunch. We had dinner at home and a small party that Daddy planned.) There were about a dozen kids and babies at her party and another 25 or so adults so we had a full house! She loved seeing all the kids.

My Dad, who worked as a baker many years ago made Camille's smash cake. He certainly didn't forget how to decorate, he did a nice job:) Camille loved it. She tried to take a bite out of it immeadiately. Then came the icing all over her face:)

I'm glad we had the party at home, Camille had a lot of fun. And we made another memory at home.

Little Person

I can't believe in just the last few months how my baby has become a little person:)
She can blow kisses, wave bye-bye and point to doggy. It amazes me how fast they grow and learn. She is a champion crawler:) Now she is trying hard to walk.
She is just a little more than a week away from being a year old and I can't believe it. It seems like just yesterday.
Party planning is in full swing. We're having her party a few days before her birthday because of my work schedule. I'll be sure to share the pictures with you.

Big Day Approaching!

I can't believe it, but it's true. The big day is approaching, Camille's first birthday:) It seems like just last week I was updating my blog from the hospital but it was last year. All of you who told me to savor every moment, you were right. I can't believe how fast this year went.
I know Camille will not remember her first birthday, but I certainly will. That's why I am in the middle of planning her party. Like all parents, I want it to be perfect. We invited family and friends. I have many of the details done but there is still lots to do.
I'd like to hear about your first birthday party for your little one, drop me a line:)

Christmas Morning

What a difference a year makes! Last December my mother was in the hospital fighting cancer and I was having a difficult pregnancy. This year we didn't have a care in the world. This Christmas was wonderful! My family was healthy, we were all together, and it was more special because of Camille. Obviously, she's to young to understand completely but she knew something was different about December 25th. For Camille, it was about pretty decorations, bright lights and unwrapping gifts. (then trying to eat the paper) For me it was about being thankful for everything I have. I hope each of you had a wonderful holiday as well:) Here are some pictures of Camille and our family from her first holiday season.

Tracy

PS
Thanks to all of you who emailed me your holiday traditions:) I certainly appreciate all the wonderful ideas!
